March, 2011
Everyone is saying "How could it be March already?" Well, it is and WOW has all sorts of fun activities scheduled.
Our regular March meeting, March 16, has become a "Let's all go out to lunch together to a really neat place!" meeting. This year we're going to Marker 4 in Venice, specializing in, you guessed it, seafood and a water view. In order for them to be prepared for us, please get your reservation in to Linda Rundio at wendykrundio@yahoo.com. Deadline is March 9. Plan to carpool and visit some of the many shops, from antiques to clothes, on Venice Ave. Let Linda know if you can drive.
The annual Block Party comes up next on Saturday, March 19 at Rotonda Community Park, $10 per person. There's still time to send in your check and reservation form to Treasurer Maria Mudd by the March 11 deadline. Be sure to check off which food you'll be making. Chairman Betty Jo Sarchett is pulling it all together with the help of some special volunteers. The food will be fabulous with everyone bringing their own special offering of salad, casserole, or dessert to compliment the fried chicken and pulled pork from "Food Is Love". The Silent Auction, chaired by Diane Hart is promising to be bigger than ever. Special theme baskets have been donated by many of our members and donated items are still coming in. If you have a basket or item to contribute, call Diane.
Last of our March events is our annual Clean-Up of Cape Haze Drive. Please note that the date was moved from March 12 to March 23. Plan to be at Judy and Jim Semradek's at 9:00 a.m. As always, many hands make light work and we always have fun at the same time.
Save the date of Wednesday, April 13 for our final meeting - the Installation Luncheon at the Hills Golf and Country Club. We'll also celebrate WOW's 20 years of fun and fellowship. Watch your e-mail for details fromSecretary Jan Morse.
Our Scholarship winners will be introduced at the luncheon. Chairman Jeannie Kimmel reports that the Committee had 28 outstanding candidates to select from. Five WOW members each devoted several days to reading the detailed application. Our thanks for their efforts.
Membership Chairmand Judy Calderone reports our total membership is 84. Welcome Chair Linda Smith is developing a complete information package to present to our new neighbors. Special thanks to Historian Elizabeth Maloney for all the pictures of recent events. She is tackling the bigger job of condensing the past 20 years. Go to our site on Shutterfly and enjoy.
The WOW cookbook, CHEFS OF WINDWARD, sells for $10 and continues to be a great success. Chair Liz Witt reports that enough copies have been sold to cover our cost of publishing and our profit toward scholarships is over $500. Have you bought yours?
"Caring Neighbors" is the new name of our Helping Hands Committee and Chairman Nancy Hack is sending out an SOS . . . please call her when you hear of a WOW member who needs some help, maybe just a cheering card. She'd rather hear twice than not at all.
